Cake Walk 2010

Splash Every year L'Arche Calgary sponsers a cake decorating competition called the Cake Walk. Last year I was on the winning team, representing the Calgary Sugarcraft Guild. This year I was part of a demonstration run by the Guild, bringing cake decorating to everyone.
My demonstration involved making tulips out of platinum paste.
Demoing next to me was Marian Madsen, my friend and cake decorating mentor. She's been decorating cakes for over 50 years! Her work shows her experience too; everything she makes is beautiful and perfectly crafted. Her demo that day was yellow daffodils. We had a great time that day -- but then we always do whenever we're together!
Before Cake Walk we had made a demonstration wedding cake.
There was lots of great sugar art at the show. In addition to the cakes, there was also blown sugar and chocolate sculptures. Here's a few of my favorites:
The winner of the Judge's Choice and People's Choice awards was the entry from the Calgary Sugarcraft Guild. It was created by Rose Sen and Janis Simmons and named "Squish"
The 2010 Cake Walk was a great success. I had a wonderful time and am looking forward to going back next year!
